About Sunshine Haven

The handcrafted home is surrounded by lush green pastures and rainforest.  Located near the historic village of Uki, New South Wales in the Gondwana Rainforest World Heritage area, Northern Rivers Region of New South Wales, this unique proper is close to iconic beach areas such as Surfer’s Paradise to the north and Byron Bay to the south.  The property is a haven for bird and wildlife where wallabies and kangaroos can be spotted grazing and platypus swim in the creek.

The property has two residences. The “main house”, completed in 1981 is built of Rosewood, Cedar, Silky Oak and Australian hardwoods. Built by highly decorated US Army Colonel David Hackworth and his expert carpenter nephew, Sean, it is unique in that every room has an entry and exit point. The master downstairs bedroom, with office space attached has an ensuite bathroom complete with handmade tiles and artistically arranged and signed by Paul Forman, a relation of film director, Milos Forman.  There is separate guest accommodation complete with en-suite annexed to a covered open plan barbeque area.

In addition to the “main house”, there is a caretaker’s cottage.  It has two-bedrooms with an open concept living space and cathedral ceilings, it has its own separate water tank and electrical supply making it a potential income generator. It is within walking distance of the main house.

Other structures on the property include equipment sheds, a plant nursery and an on-site, sealed storage area. Water supply to the property is through an underground spring and the property has a dam or lake that holds 60 million litres (13 million gallons) of water and is approximately 30 feet deep. There are two private swimming holes along the Chowan Creek as the creek meanders along the western boundary.

The surrounding beautiful rainforest consists of red and white cedars, mahogany; rosewood; tallow; teak; birdsnest ferns, staghorns; elkhorns; centuries old Austral Grass Tree, giant black/tallboys; tree ferns and giant lilies.  Citrus, banana, pecan, guava, mamma sapote and mango trees also grow on the property. It is also perfect for agisting cattle and/or horses. Corn has also been planted on the property in the past.

Brisbane International Airport is 150 kms away while the growing Gold Coast International airport is a 45-minute drive.
